Server 2012 is now being rolled out very quickly across lots of sites. Companies tend to rush in without thinking about the implications of deploying a new OS in their environment.
When deploying a 2012 server into an infrastructure with an existing WSUS server, you might find that although it reports in to the WSUS server it is unable to install any patches. Examining the Windows Update log file in C:\Windows shows the error below :-
Network Cost is assumed to be not supported as something failed with trying to get handles to wcmapi.dll
This is normally due to the WSUS server being out of date. If you install WSUS 3.0 SP2 then this will resolve your issue. SP2 introduces support for 2012 and Windows 8.
